Telenor Pakistan and PBCC are hoping to facilitate the blind with personal benefits such as fitness, stress relief, resilience, discipline, team work and leadership opportunities through the program.
The ‘Khuddar Pakistan Blind Cricket Talent Hunt’ began on 5th October 2009 spreading over two phases of selection that covered all parts of the country. A total of 16 schools for the visually impaired from 11 cities participated in the talent hunt. At the end of the selection process, a training camp was set up by PBCC in Islamabad , during which the selected forty four students were trained by the National Team Coach, Nafees Ahmed as well as other national level physical trainers. The growth in the mobile sector of Pakistan has been more then 100 percent on average in the past seven years. The economy of the country has benefited greatly from this sector and there is still potential for more growth. In 2009 Telecom sector has made enormous progress especially in the last 2 quarters of the year. Wi-Fi handset shipments have exploded over the past year, and will continue to show strong growth over the next several years. With the increasing prevalence of Wi-Fi enabled handsets, hotspot usage by handheld devices has increased significantly. As a percentage of total connects, handhelds increased from 20% in 2008 to 35% in 2009. By 2011 handhelds are anticipated to account for half of hotspot connects reports In-Stat. (more…)
